Rosh Hashanah
The celebration of the horns, Jewish New Year, the day of Judgment...started yesterday at sun down as all Jewish Holidays do. I think it is important as a Christian to at least have a basic understanding of these Holidays and their meanings, as these are the holidays Jesus celebrated with his family then later his disciples.
Rosh Hashanah is not the actual first day of the year on the Jewish calendar but on a deeper level, it is a fresh start. A day to remember God's judgment and deity in our lives. Also, a day used to remember when Abraham was tested and passed the test. God was pleased with him and provided a ram because Abraham proved he would with hold nothing from God. Rosh Hashanah the day of the shofar (rams horn trumpet).
So as I embark on furthering my knowledge of Jewish Holidays I ask you how will you observe this day...A fresh start...Who do you need to forgive, who do you need to ask forgiveness of? Let's make today a fresh start and celebrate this time of year that our Savior and Lord celebrated thousands of years ago.
I do not have a shofar but today I plan to sing praises and lift up God's name because He has been merciful. I plan to walk in love not just today but today on out. I am going to forgive those I have held a grudge against and ask forgiveness of those I have hurt. If I have hurt you please tell me. I am cleaning my slate that I may be ready for judgment and I encourage you to do the same.
Happy Rosh Hashanah!
disclaimer...This is what I have taken from my readings as of this second...I am not a scholar in Jewish holidays
That being said please feel free to comment.
