Being doers

Through the wonders of Facebook I was inspired this morning.  A page I follow posted a link to a video in which the creator the page, I am assuming, was discussing 1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed." as is written in my NIV Teen Bible (The only bible on my desk at the moment).

King James says "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"

Prepare, gird, these are actions, verbs, doing is required here...be self controlled or sober, again with the doing, a conscious choice...and set your hope the on grace and revelation of Christ...that is salvation, both deliverance in our present day and eternity.

Choices, actions, discipline...

The rest of this verse says..."As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy as I am holy."

24 "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."

What are you choosing today?  What actions are you taking?

Today I am choosing to gird my mind with the word of God, pleasing action to Him.  I am choosing to be holy and use self control (which would seem like an easy feet for a person who has been willing abstinent for nearly 6 years but is not).  I want my glory to be that of the Lord,. eternal, withstanding the whithering of all that is perishable and standing forever.

Make a choice to live a life that will stand in your legacy long after you have whithered like the flowers of the field, although beautiful in their time they are not eternal and only last a season.  Gird; put on a mind that focuses on Christ.  This means put off the mind of the world, do not be like the world, do not conform to evil desires.  It seems so much easier to choose good over evil but when we are saturated in evil and evil pleases self it seems unavoidable.  Exercise your spiritual muscles today wake up with a word of praise on your lips, pick a verse a day to memorize and gird your mind with truth.  The choice isn't always easy but it is yours.
