Rediscovering

Recently I have been hearing the song "Let me rediscover you" by Downhere.  It is a nice tune and I find myself humming it throughout the day not actually knowing the lyrics.  One day while I was in the car this song came on and one line stood out and the words suddenly took life.

"How can I say I know You when what I know is still so small?"

I am the first to say "I know the Lord" or "I have a relationship with God," but this single line made me rethink these statements.

Isaiah 6:1-3 says "...I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.  Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.  And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."

Isaiah saw the Lord and He was surrounded by seraphs, seraphs the highest order of Angels, crying "Holy, holy, holy!"

Revelations 4:8 says "Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

These had eyes all over "even under his wing" They aren't missing a think with that many eyes!
In Revelations 19 the elders are falling to their knees crying "Amen, Hallelujah!"  In Psalms it is noted over and over that the heavens declare, proclaim, give proof to God's glory and that creation cries out...

So just to recap...we have the highest order of angels that hang out with God EVERY day, the Elders who know Him well and are highly esteemed, the Heaven which God created and where He dwells, of and everything else He made and that has been with Him since creation, all declaring, proclaiming, crying out the character of God, professing their love and joy in Him, in awe of His nature.  Then you have me...27 years on living in a carnal body created in His image and I say "I know the Lord."  That is a pretty bold statement.  Could one be so disillusioned, or proud to claim they know the Lord?

I am by no means saying you cannot know the Lord or have a personal relationship.  I am focusing on when we say I know...and mean I don't need to know more, I have arrived, I am sanctified, etc and so forth...This is the problem...I know of God's Mercy...trust me I know of many of His characteristics if you read any of my blog posts!  I know of these things but my mind cannot fathom the depths of His character.  This is the area where, I feel at least for myself, we sell ourselves short.  What we know "Is just the tip of the iceberg" so the saying goes.

Why would Angels that dwell in the thrown room of the Lord cry out Holy all day every time they see Him as they are encircled around the throne?  They are with the Lord all the time. They know Him they are close to Him they see Him.  Yet they cry Holy!  The character of our God runs so deep that even beings that have been with Him since the beginning of time are still receiving revelation about His character.  Creatures that have had unbridled access to His glory still cry out in the wonder of who He is and what He has done.  They esteem Him as the creator declaring His work to be filled with His glory.  They are rediscovering Him every day.

:) LOL this makes me think of my friends who for Christmas told their son the family would be going to Disney World  in the spring.  He was so excited and it was a great surprise.  In the weeks to come they talk about the trip and my friend said every time they talk about it he acts like he had no idea they were going and gets excited all over again.  What a great gift!

This is like the Angels and Elders it is like they had no idea what God was all about and when it is revealed again on a deeper level they are so excited, so taken, so in awe they cry out HOLY!

Rediscover...I want to have that same excitement, that revelation, that newness...I want to say "What! God is doing what!  He loves me how much?  Holy is the Lord!"  every day..."How can I say I know you when what I know is still so small?"

Lord make me like a Seraph tonight, completely taken by your character, in awe of your glory, elated with your majesty, let me rediscover you.  Amen
