Get over your Handicap
Labeled disabled- lacking ability
Imperfection-Is that really all that you see?
They love with out condition
Forgive and forget
And smile in spite of pain
They trust without out question
Give without gain
And put on a brave face for the doctors
They bring joy to the ones who love them
and joy to new friends that they meet
They accept people as they are
and never hold a standard for them to reach
They dance like no one is looking
and can be silly and care free
They don't worry about image and appearance
and don't care what you think they should be
They defy logic and social standards
and stump even the wisest of men
They take life as it comes
and don't worry about what might have been
Does this sound like something is lacking?
Oh I agree without question in my mind
But the things that I see that are lacking
are the ones by which your standards are defined
I see a disability to hate, plot, and defy
A short coming in greed and selfishness
and the lack of vanity is hard to deny
An inability to conform to statuesque
and untainted by the world
I see a person that challenges your logic
making you question all you think you know
What you think you know about life
about status happiness and success
What you think you know about ability
and what it means to be the best
Really who's the one that's disabled
the one you takes the bull by the horns?
Who is proud to be who they are
a person that so many love and adore
I am sorry if you feel you are better
That their life is just circumstance
Because they "can't" in your eyes
Does that mean they don't deserve a chance
I think if you can look and judge
Perhaps you have the disability
Inability to see past the surface
A life destined for disdain
These children look past the outside
They have a way of seeing the heart
And even if yours isn't the prettiest
They see past the dirt and the spots
They are lacking the ability to pass judgement
Because they are not like you and me
Their hearts over flow with compassion
Because beauty is all that they see
I think THIS is what makes you uncomfortable
More than their noises or chairs
Because we want to hide behind out status
Not be known for what's inside
Because we are the ones disabled, handicapped and behind
Because we care about the outside more the the treasures inside
Made in the image of God
Knit and molded by His own two hands
Given a hope and a future
My God's no respecter of man
We hear we must have faith like a child to receive Him
Yet we are so tainted by the world
But these special children you call disabled,
Are untainted by the world
God has great plans for each one of them
Many lessons that must be taught
On honesty love and compassion
The least of these they are not
Disabled is all in perception
And if you are missing the lesson they bring
My friend you are the one that's disabled
And that is the saddest of things.
The ability and gifts these children offer
None can rival or compare
Do a little heart therapy and soon you too will be there
I feel so bad that you are handicapped
The blinders over your eyes
Where everything is black and white
But grey only means rainy skies
Grey rainy skies means rainbows
From perception other than yours
Something to look forward to
A beauty after the rain
If everything is just black and white
You miss the beautiful display
Because they were made in God's image
They shine the brightest in His love
Who said your body must be perfect
to reflect the character of God
So let them shine and don't darken their rainbows
With your labels and boxes and stares
If you do you are the one that's disabled
and they want to help you through there
Take a hand and let a child lead you
They are Special in more than their needs
Because they are the ones needed
And we have the disability
Stretch out your arms and learn love
Spin and dance to feel the real joy
Close your eyes and listen to nature
Sit in silence and look at the sky
Forgive that person that wronged you
And forget the anger that you felt
Stop shouting at the sky in frustration
about the hand you've been wrongfully dealt
Sing as loud as you want to
Even if you can't carry a note
Paint from your heart with a passion
until your excitement explodes
If you do this than you are cured
But there is a possibility
That this therapy will continue
to give you endless ability.
You can learn quiet a lot from a teacher
from life and circumstance
but a child that God made special
Will teach you the lessons that last
Really who's the one that's disabled
the one you takes the bull by the horns?
Who is proud to be who they are
